Introduction
Daycare centre is a place where a child is taken care of by another person who is not his family. This is an ongoing service which is during specific time periods and especially during parents working hours. This is the sole reason why many parents choose day care over preschool although preschool education is very important to form a basis of their child’s education. Preschool is specifically designed for children of a certain age group and they offer activities which stimulate the child’s physical and social development. Daycare v/s Preschool this debate will always go on in a parents mind as to which will better suit the needs and requirements of them and their child.
Similarities between Daycare and Preschool:
Both preschool and daycare have similar requirements for accreditation and licensing. Both of them charge almost the same which does not make much of a difference if you are deciding to put your child into a preschool or a day care. These two, ie the daycare and preschool both have different activities which help the child to develop their different skills and development.
Dissimilarities between Daycare and Preschool:
Daycare is for children of ages infant to elementary and whereas preschool is aimed at catering to students of ages 2 ½ and 5 or 6 years. Preschool timings are limited and they are scheduled 2-5 times a week. Whereas a daycare caters to all the working parents which is a great benefit. And the basic difference between these two is that preschool works on a specific education approach whereas a daycare is viewed as more of a custodial of the children.
The most essential point to remember when you are when you are choosing either a daycare or a preschool is that you are comfortable with the providers and the programs they are offering. Your preschooler is going to spend a lot of time so it has to be one of the best you choose with an environment which is nurturing and fun for your child. Preschool curriculum has an educational approach unlike a daycare provider so if your stress is more on the education then preschool would be a good choice but daycare is also a good option for working parents.
